As more people enter the technical profession, so does the competition. You'll need to be sure to include all of your technical abilities as well as any transferable skills you've obtained from other professions in order to make your resume stand out.
The first thing you need to be sure of is that your technical skills are easily readable. Potential employers shouldn't have to hunt through your resume to find out the skills you have. Break out your resume into sections. Have one section that lists all the hardware and software you're proficient in, as well as sections on technical certification and any web or database applications you've used.
You also want to be sure to not focus entirely on the technical skills you have. Many managers want to know you can transfer these skills into working with a team. Note on your resume how you were able to use your knowledge to suggest methods in achieving the company's goals. Let your personality show a bit in this section so the hiring manager can glean how you'll work within a team environment.
When listing your achievements within a company and the projects you were on, keep in mind there's no need to list every single project. You'll want to list some of the major projects and give examples as to how your performance benefited the company. Give measurable accomplishments such as how you saved the company money, enhanced efficiency, etc. Also you can include types of challenges you faced and how you overcame them.
